The Blue Nile Stories: Digital Gallery is an online storytelling space that delves into the hydro-social and environmental records of the communities inhabiting the Blue Nile River basin across Ethiopia, Sudan, and Egypt. Through a multidisciplinary lens, it hosts a fluid interplay of cultural and environmental realities from the riverine landscapes by foregrounding a rich tapestry of artistic expressions that explore people’s evolving relationship with the river.
Through reflections on how shared stories and collective memories shape local and regional understandings of water, it recalls community resilience and traditions against the backdrop of extreme climate-related events, such as floods and drought. The gallery’s emphasis on inclusivity and co-creation is central. It features inputs from marginalised communities, particularly young women, youth, and local artists, ensuring the representation of a multiplicity of perspectives. In this regard, it is envisioned to serve as an interactive platform that reimagines digital spaces on water as hubs of intercultural dialogue, repositories of knowledge, and catalysts for sustainable approaches to harnessing the Blue Nile River and its waterscapes.
Funded by the Water and Development Partnership Programme at IHE Delft Institute for Water Education under the project “AQUAMUSE: Facilitating Just and Sustainable Water Futures through Water Museums, Digital Media, and the Arts.”
In this regard, it is envisioned to serve as an interactive platform that reimagines digital spaces on water as hubs of intercultural dialogue, repositories of knowledge, and catalysts for sustainable approaches to harnessing the Blue Nile River and its waterscapes.
